Sin’s Consequences
Scripture: Matthew 24:50-51 The master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he is not aware of. 51 He will cut him to pieces and assign him a place with the hypocrites, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
In Matthew 24, Jesus spends a lot of time preparing His followers for the coming age. Interestingly, Jesus knew that it would not come in their lifetime. The last day events that Jesus was describing have yet to happen. Most of us present day followers wonder if these things might happen in our lifetime. Of course, no one knows the day or the hour, not even Jesus or the angels; only the Father (Matthew 24:36).
But the last two verses of chapter 24 send chills up believer’s backs because we believe God’s Word to be true. The Bible does not lie or ever exaggerate. These two verses remind us how terrible the consequences will be for those who do not allow Jesus to cover their sins. Jesus is coming for us who have trusted in His work on the cross. For those left behind, they will face the last horrible years of this earth’s existence without the presence of God, as we have Him now.
In the final judgment, when the unbelieving and unfaithful stand before God, their destiny is an eternal hell. Jesus describes it as a place where there will be “weeping and gnashing of teeth.” All this must give each of us a sense of urgency to get the Good News of Jesus to everyone we possibly can. Our JH presentation has but one goal: Prepare people for eternity!
Father, build within me a sense of responsibility and urgency to see all people seek and find your Son as their Savior. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
