Recognize Christ’s Authority: Transfer of Power
Scripture Reading: 1 Corinthians 15:20-28
Key Verse: 1 Corinthians 15:24
Then the end will come, when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father after he has destroyed all dominion, authority and power.
In yesterday’s devotional we studied the authority the Father had given Jesus. Jesus received all authority in heaven and on earth. Today, we are studying a second transfer of this power and authority; it is back to the Father. The Apostle Paul explains that Jesus holds this authority only until the work that He has to do has been accomplished.
Jesus is working on building the kingdom of God. His task is to draw all men to Himself. His power and authority are far more powerful than the enemy’s. Jesus will destroy all dominion, authority, and power that stands opposed to the heavenly kingdom. Jesus will hold the authority given to Him until He has “put all His enemies under His feet” (1 Corinthians 15:25).
Now we can understand why the “Good News” of the Gospel is truly good news! When we receive Jesus, we have invited, into our lives, the One who holds all the eternal powers. As we will see in the coming days, this authority is available to us and at work in us. Have you received Jesus into your life? If so, rejoice! You have authority over your enemy the devil! “Greater is He that is in you than He that is in the world” (1 John 4:4).
Here is the critical Next Step after receiving Jesus: Learn how to use the authority that reigns within you! The devil loves to blind us to our power over his tricks and temptations.
Father, I praise you for your plan of saving us. Thank you for Jesus and His power and authority. Open my eyes in living out these truths. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
