The Power of a Story:
Confessing and Faith
Scripture Reading: Romans 10:10-14
Key Verse: Romans 10:9
That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
The story of the Gospel is unfolding as we have looked at the first two parts: We all are sinners and Jesus died for sinners. Today we look at the third part of the story and we will see that it includes us. We must step into the story. We are not intruding; we have been invited. God has set up a plan for us to spend eternity with Him. Part of the plan is to have us choose rather than be forced to go God’s way.
Today’s key verse invites us to confess and trust in the plan God has provided. If we confess the Lord Jesus and believe in our hearts that God raised Him from the dead, we will be saved. All people can be saved, but His plan is not a universal salvation that blankets all humankind. In other words, it is available to all but it does not automatically save all. Every single person who gets to heaven has chosen to confess and believe in the Lord Jesus. We can reject God’s plan and, unfortunately, many do!
God gave every person born into this world the unique gift of free moral agency. He could force us to serve Him, making us robotic, but he wanted us to participate in the plan because we had the power to choose not to, but made a real choice to accept Him.
Father, your love and plan for me is wildly generous and I receive it by faith. Thank you for saving my soul. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
