Our worst-case scenarios are probably far less troubling than what these apostles faced!

The Single Greatest Gift:
Enabled to Speak – Part 2

Scripture Reading:  Acts 4:23-31

Key Verse: Acts 4:29

Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness.

Yesterday’s devotional painted the picture of the courage we can have when God steps into our lives!  Let’s note a few significant elements of the divine intervention that the apostles experienced.

First, we should take note that a very real threat to their safety had occurred.  Peter and John had a real problem that had caused them pain.  We must understand, God never promised that our lives will be free of pain and suffering, but it is these “seasons” of trouble that give opportunity for God to demonstrate His power!

Secondly, we should realize that Peter and John were willing to face the worst-case scenario that could occur because of their talk of Jesus.  What is the worst-case scenario for you if you decide that God wants you to talk to a specific individual about Jesus?  Our worst-case scenarios are probably far less troubling than what these apostles faced!

Finally, in the midst of their troubles, they prayed for more courage to speak boldly about Jesus.  God answered that prayer, as described in Acts 4:31b and they were filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the Word of God boldly.  Would you like to experience that fresh infilling of God’s Spirit so your conversations about Jesus are characterized by boldness?  Let’s ask God to fill us today!

Father, please make me to speak your Word with great boldness.  I look forward to renewed courage in my walk with you and my talk with those around me.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
