The Single Greatest Gift:
Don’t Miss It
Scripture Reading: Hebrews 12:14-24
Key Verse: Hebrews 12:15a
See to it that no one misses the grace of God
Hebrews 12:15 gives us our clarion call as God’s children: See to it that no one misses the grace of God! There is our call—our challenge in life—our reason to get out of bed! As Christ followers, we must care about the people around us who have yet to experience the grace of God in their lives. We must “see to it” that they have an opportunity to receive the single greatest gift ever given—Jesus Christ in their life!
As the Hebrew writer unfolds this wonderful gift available to us and everyone we encounter, he paints a clear picture. In Hebrews 12:22 he reminds us that we come to Mount Zion, to the heavenly Jerusalem, the city of the living God. This verse is pointing the Jewish believers to a new homeland. The Jews focused all their faith in the earthly homeland of Israel. Jerusalem was their holy city—the center of their worship. After Jesus came—lived, died, and was resurrected—there is a new covenant with the people of God. There is a spiritual city in heaven that we all get to live in forever and ever. Jesus was the mediator of this new covenant, paid for by the shedding of His blood on the cross!
None of us wants to miss this new city of God. Nor do we want anyone to miss living eternally with the New Jerusalem at the center of our worship. This month is about seeing to it that no one misses this grace of God!
Father, thank you for giving Jesus as the perfect sacrificial lamb for the sins of my life! I will share this gift with others. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
