Fellowship

Scripture Reading:  Acts 2:42-47

Key Verse:  Acts 2:42

They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.

Why do some people seem unable to stop themselves from getting into a juicy gossip session?  Why does it seem some can’t stop reading celebrity magazines or TV reality shows?  Do you know anyone who seems addicted to TV, watching hours on end of mindless shows?

These soft addictions are symptoms of deeper needs.  Soft addictions are all attached to deeper hungers of our souls.  The above mentioned soft addictions show a deep need to connect to other people.  God made us to be social; to interact with other people.  God’s Word starts out in Genesis telling us that God felt it was not good for man to be alone!  Yes, we were made to connect with others!  The only problem we seem to have is choosing appropriate ways of connecting!

Our scripture for today paints the picture of God’s people enjoying the fellowship of one another!  It is the purpose of the church to keep God’s people strong in their faith by interacting with one another.  When we never get to this real method of connection and substitute it with media addictions, we are left empty!  The local church has many weaknesses, but it is still the hope of the world.  God loved His church and gave Himself for it.  Let’s join it and live the abundant life.

Father, help me to see the substitutes in my life.  Help me to replace them with your “food” for my soul!  You lead and I will follow!  In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
