Our menu needs to be focused on the deep spiritual needs of our lives.

Minding Your Menu:
Our Real Hungers

Scripture Reading:  Matthew 6:25-34

Key Verse:  Matthew 6:26

Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?

People go on shopping sprees, buying expensive gifts for themselves and others; are those gifts really the deepest needs?  When someone makes a practice of fantasizing and day dreaming that others find them attractive, is that truly their deepest hunger?

In both these cases, most of the time these activities are only symptoms of someone’s deeper need to be valued; to matter or to be important.  This week we must “mind our menu” and know what are deepest hungers are verses surface wants.  Our menu needs to be focused on the deep spiritual needs of our lives.  When we can distinguish our true hungers, we can start putting the correct “food” on our menu!

Jesus reminds us, as God’s children we don’t need to walk around with the unmet hungers of wanting to matter or the need to feel important.  Our Father in heaven knows us and cares about our every need.  In our scripture for today, Jesus reminds us that our Father takes care of the birds of the air and that we are much more important to Him than them.  God created the lilies of the field and gives them their beauty without effort or stress on their part!  How much more then can we relax and rest in our Father’s care?  God will meet us at our deepest hungers, trust Him!

Father, thank you for loving me with such depth and consistency.  I will look to you to satisfy all my real needs and hungers.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
