Minding Your Mind:
Love God with Your Mind

Scripture Reading: Matthew 22:34-40

Key Verse: Matthew 22:37

Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’

Jesus was asked what the greatest commandments were by an expert in the Law.  Without a moment hesitation, Jesus responded that the greatest commandment was to love God with all of our heart, soul and mind!  This week we are talking about minding our minds; supervising our thoughts.  The question we must face is whether we are loving God with all our mind?

Within the mind we have the power to lust after the things the eyes see.  The mind has the power to control our actions by logical reasoning.  Our minds can zone out and not engage in activities that take so little thinking.  Our minds can distort truth and justify the soft addictions that plague us.

Jesus wants us to know that we can learn to love God with all our minds.  With His help, we can think our way through the activities we will or will not allow ourselves to participate in.  With our minds we can engage in a strategy to control the time involved in the activities that we are enjoying.  As the Apostle Paul wrote: All things are permissible, but all things are not beneficial (1 Corinthians 6:12).  The Spirit of God in us will nudge us, making us uncomfortable with the activities that are starting to steal away the love that only God deserves!  When we sense that we are allowing our mind to slip in its love for God, we must demand a change in our lifestyle.

Father, I open my mind to the searchlight of your Holy Spirit.  Please point out any offensive ways within me!  In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
