Why Believe the Bible?
God Breathed
Scripture Reading: 2 Timothy 3:10-17
Key Verse: 2 Timothy 3:16
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness
This month we are going to study three things that we claim as truth! We want to know why we believe them and how to verbalize our faith in them to others. This first section will focus on why we believe the Bible. The Bible says of itself that it is the very breath of God. In others words, what we read in the Bible comes from the lips of God. God influenced the men who wrote these scriptures in the way that the eternal truths were recorded. The human writers each had their personalities involved, which is evident, but the truths that God wanted us to live by came through each individual writer.
Forty different human writers who lived over a period of about 1500 years (50 generations) wrote the Bible. Even though most of these writers never met each other to collaborate their writing efforts, there are no contradictions in their writings. Like no other book the writers all agree on themes such as morality, child rearing, husband and wife relationships, the character of God, the way of salvation, and the birth, life, death and resurrection of Jesus –God’s son.
There have been critics who try to point out contradictions, but when investigated objectively, we find no eternal truths were involved. God protected His Word from error!
Father, as worldly information changes from generation to generation, thank you for the consistency of your Word! Fill me with your truth. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
