The Devil and Diversion
Pleasure’s Diversions
Scripture Reading: 1 Timothy 6:6-10
Key Verse: Hebrews 11:25
He chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a short time.
God’s plan for Moses included his upbringing in Pharaoh’s wealthy home. He had the best education and the finest clothes and food available to that time period. It would have been easy to settle into that lifestyle and forget God and his family of origin. Our printed key verse lets us know that, by faith, Moses refused to be known as the son of Pharaoh’s daughter. He refused to get diverted by the “pleasures of sin for a short time.”
God grants us many wonderful pleasures to enjoy in this life, but there are some things that He has warned us will harm us; some things that seem so pleasurable for a short time can ruin our relationship with God and wreck our lives. We have all heard the testimonies of drug addicts who chose to enjoy the pleasures of their drug of choice rather than a clean life. It seemed so right at the time, but they testify of the tragic results in the long run. Drug addicts are not the only ones who get derailed by the pleasures of this world. As Paul warned Timothy in the suggested scripture reading for today: “Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs” (1 Timothy 6:10). What pleasures are you allowing in your life that could be a diversion from God’s plan for your life?
Father, open my eyes to things in my life that would divert my love for you. Grant me your spirit of self-control to say no to ungodliness. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
