Powerful Prayers
This Week: A Prayer for Joy-filled Living
Today: God’s Will
Scripture Reading: Colossians 1:10-12
Key Verse: Colossians 1:9
For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding.
Do you realize that if you and I can find and live out God’s will, we will enjoy a joy-filled life? The Apostle Paul, in Romans 12:2, reminds us that God’s will is “good, pleasing and perfect.” Sometimes Christ followers get the idea that living out God’s will is going to ruin their fun. We are afraid to say to God: “Above all else I want your will.” Some think that automatically means we will have to suffer some terrible fate.
But the truth is we can never truly enjoy life outside of God’s will. If it’s “good, pleasing and perfect” why would we not want to do everything in our power to have God’s will working in our lives? Fellow Christ follower, we need to continually seek God’s will. We need to long for its fullness in our lives. We have nothing to fear or dread; it will be good, pleasing and perfect!
Our prayer to pray this week starts off instructing us to ask God to fill us with the knowledge of His will. What a great prayer to pray in a world of gray areas of good, better and best! We Americans, especially, are blessed with so many options; we make choices every day that many people around the world know nothing about. This is a privilege that comes with great responsibility! We need to choose wisely, each and every day. There is not a day that we don’t need God to fill us with His will for our lives.
“Father, I don’t want my way today! I want your way—your will—working in me! I give you permission to make all decisions according to your will. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
