We are to grow in our knowledge of God as we spend time with Him.

Powerful Prayers
This Week: A Prayer for Spiritual Maturity
Today: Knowledge

Scripture Reading: Romans 11:3-36

Key Verse: Philippians 1:9

And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight

Yesterday we realized that our love for God is to be continually growing!  Today we start down the path of what it is to grow in our knowledge.  Our love, in its beginning stages, is more about the zeal of the Lord.  We are so thrilled with the realization that God has forgiven us and we are in His family.  We should never loose this zeal, but we should add to it: Knowledge.

Like dating, we are to grow in our knowledge of God as we spend time with Him.  Our first experience of Him is wonderful, but there is a never-ending resource of knowledge we need.  Our suggested additional reading section reminds us of the “depths of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God” (Romans 11:33).  Our life is to be spent digging our new “gems” of truth from God’s Word.  We are to never get satisfied with our understanding of God.  When we are saved from our sins by our faith in Jesus, we sign up to be a life-long student of the God we serve.

This wisdom and knowledge of God is far too vast to think it could be conquered in a lifetime.  So we are to take little bits everyday to learn more and more!  Our goal is not “how many times have I read through the Bible?”  Our goal is to know what we are reading. Slow down…take small passages and study them.  Keep a pen and paper close by to write down what God reveals to you!

“Father, I commit to the study of your Word.  Reveal your truths to me and grow me into the person you want me to be.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
