I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being
In the suggested additional reading section for today we read the story of David’s repentance after the adultery with Bathsheba. Under the inspiration of God’s Spirit, David wrote of his need for “truth in the inner parts…wisdom in the inmost place” (verse 6). God’s healing would need to go deep in David’s heart. The sinfulness of this world brings deep wounds. A “band aid” approach will never work! God’s Spirit must get into our inner most thoughts and bring His healing truth!
It is no surprise that the Apostle Paul prayed that God would strengthen the Ephesian Christ followers with power through God’s Spirit in their inner being. Whether it’s our own sinfulness, like David, or some evil that was put upon us by another’s sinfulness, we need healing where the wound is.
Notice that Paul is praying this prayer…”so that Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith” (verse 17). In other words, we need God’s work in our inner being in order to have faith function properly in our hearts. We can imagine how a person who was victimized or abandoned by their father would have trouble having faith in a heavenly Father. This person needs God’s “inner being” work before they can truly trust their heavenly Father. We all have our wounds that prevent us from walking with God in abundant living. We all need to be strengthened with power through God’s Spirit in our inner beings. Let’s learn to pray this prayer!
“Father, I know you can see my most inward being. Please bring your healing touch to the deep wounds of my spirit. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
